Good Faith Estimate – Notice Requirement for Illinois Clients

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate that outlines the expected costs of your medical and mental health care.

Under the law, healthcare providers are required to provide an estimate of anticipated charges to patients who are uninsured or not using insurance. This includes services such as psychotherapy.

You are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate covering the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy.

You may request a Good Faith Estimate from your healthcare provider, as well as from any other provider, before scheduling a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 higher than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the charges. Be sure to keep a copy or photo of your estimate for your records.
